Asking for more prayers for Kylie

Updated at bottom......{I am just updating as Vera updates, but she has said thanks so much for all the prayers and I don't want them to stop..} Pray On!!!!

I blogged a little while ago about Kylie - a daughter of a dear friend of mine from high school. I did not give many details because her record is complex, but this is direct from her mom off of facebook. PLEASE pray for Kylie and this family. This will be a trying and serious next few hours and weeks....

Vera is scared to death! Kylie is back in the hospital and will have neurosurgery today. Her shunt that drains fluid from her brain has malfunctioned.

THANK YOU TO EVERYONE! Surgery will be today. She is a 3rd case for today. They will be removing her shunt and placing an external drain in until the infection in her abdominal area clears up. After a week or more and clear test for infection they will do surgery again to place a new shunt in. Please Keep her in your prayers. Things are very serious b/c of the risk of infection to the brain due to the infection in her belly that has been close to her existing shunt line.

PRAYING OVER YOUR KYLIE!!!
NEWEST UPDATE at 3:25pm March 4
Kylie has been asleep since Thursday of last week, having abnormal neurological activity, and headaches. As you may recall one of the complications from her surgery last week was the potential for her shunt to get infected. She developed an infection in her abdomen from surgery and that caused her shunt to malfunction and pressure to start to build up in her brain. To keep infection from spreading to her brain they had to remove her internal shunt and place an external shunt until the infection clears up. We will be here a minimum of 10-14 days. If the infection is cleared by then they can do surgery to place a new shunt. I am thankful we caught it early b/c we may not have had the same outcome. With the pressure being released she is much more alert. Now we just continue to pray and wait. I am debating on posting pics. We were blessed with another miracle today. Thank you for your never ending prayers for our Kylie.
From pics and captions posted - Kylie is alert, smiling and so much more a little girl...Vera thanks you for your prayers!!!

  2. Courtney,
I don't know where to start to say thank you for asking your followers to pray for Kylie. No prayer ever goes unheard. Kylie is still alert today and has some minimal side affects from the intracranial pressure. The twitching and rolling of her eyes, not being able to look up with her eyes and her eyes forcing themselves in a downward motion have been caused by pressure that was put on certain parts of the brain for that extended period of time. Also her left arm is ataxic, meaning it shakes as she tries to lift it and she has trouble grasping at objects. This is also one of the areas affected when the pressure built up. As I was reading about what you have gone through over the last four years, with trying to get your little guy diagnosed and no one listening, I could so relate to how you feel. Before Kylie was dischared on Saturday, after the surgery last week, I expressed my concerns to the Dr.'s about how lathargic she was and how her eyes were moving abnormaly. I knew something was wrong yet when I told them they blew me off and told me that she would get better once she got home. Well 5 days after the onset of the symptoms she was not any better. I just wish Dr's would listen to mamas alot more and give them a little more credit in knowing their own child than they do. I am trying to just be thankful that the infection did not travel to her brain but I still can't be upset that if they had only listened then maybe we would not have some of the neurological damage we do now. God was in control the entire time and He is the ultimate healer. Well thanks once again and maybe I will give blogging a try one day. I hope the surgery for tubes tomorrow goes well and that you will have a very productive appointment at the urologist in B'ham. I have found that it is always better to use a specialist who specializes in pediatrics. That I have learned the hard way. You are doing the right thing. Sorry you have to travel so far for it. Like you said it is a good excuse to get closer to seeing your family. I will be praying for your little guys (all three). Only 5 more weeks. WOW!

  3. Thanks Vera - We love you and know in all things there is good! Well, Zach did well today with his tubes - a very quick procedure, but one the doc said was definately needed. I will have to update the blog sometime soon. As for the prayers - That is all God work! We love you - thanks for the update - I did not want to step on over anyone's personal space, but knew that you would appreciate all you can get :) You keep being the great mom you are and pray for God to show you the "nicest" way to knock the docs up side the head when they need it :) take care !!!!!
